Nuclear Plant Updates as of March 31, 2011

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) has been publishing daily updates on the status of the six reactors at Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Station.

Here is the updated file as of March 31, 2011 at 6am.

Summary
Unit 1 – Fresh water is being injected into the core
Unit 2 – Fresh water is being injected into the spent fuel pool and the core
Unit 3 – Fresh water is being injected into the spent fuel pool and the core
Unit 4 – Fresh water is being injected into the spent fuel pool. (There is no fuel in the reactor pressure vessel.)
Unit 5 – In cold shutdown since March 20, connected to external power since March 21
Unit 6 – In cold shutdown since March 20, connected to external power since March 22

The latest Japanese version of this file (as of April 1, 2011 at 2:00am) says that fresh water is being injected into the spent fuel pool and the core in Unit 1. Otherwise, there are no major updates.


Verdict – I don’t know anything about nuclear reactors, but I’m also not seeing any spikes that are worrying me, so I’m going to be able to sleep tonight.
